More Illinoisans favor gay marriage now than two ... - Capitol Fax.com

* And here?s another result from the 2012 Paul Simon Public Policy Institute poll?

Which of the following three statements comes closest to your position on the legal rights of gay and lesbian couples in Illinois

Gay/lesbian couples should be allowed to legally marry 43.6%

Gay/lesbian couples should be allowed to form civil unions 31.8%

There should be no legal recognition of relationships between gay and lesbian couples 20.2%

    Other/ Don?t know 4.4%

* Compare those results to how the numbers looked two years ago, in the 2010 Paul Simon Public Policy Institute poll?

Which of the following three statements comes closest to your position on the legal rights of gay and lesbian couples in Illinois?

Gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to legally marry 33.6%

Gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to form civil unions, which would give them some legal rights 33.9%

There should be no legal recognition of relationships between gay and lesbian couples 26.5%

    Other/Don?t know 6.0%

So, the number of people who say gays should be allowed to marry is up ten points in just two years, while those opposing all recognition of gay unions has declined by over 6 points. The most recent poll?s margin of error is 2.77 points, so this is real movement.

That?s pretty amazing.

Self Help Guidelines To Feel More Content | MUDANZA URGENTE ...

Are you a positive or negative thinker? Listen to your inner voice for the answer. If you constantly focus on the negative, then you could be sabotaging the outcome of a goal you wish to reach. Listen to the positive voice that tells you you can do something, and ignore the negative voice that says you can?t.

No matter what aspect of yourself that you decide to improve you can be sure that there are other people out there working on the same thing. Try to find these people either in every day life or in online forums so that you can share tips as well as have support.

Consider learning an instrument as part of your personal development. You probably had some type of music training when you were young, and it is never too late to learn again. Learning an instrument can expand your appreciation for various types of music. Music teachers for adults can customize lessons and use music that are more appropriate for adults. Therefore, do not worry that you will only be learning children?s songs. Being able to play an instrument is a wonderful feeling, you are really missing out if you don?t give it a try.

Take a night class to add some interest to your life. Sometimes the same old drudgery can get to even the most easy going individual. Perhaps your circle of acquaintances is getting old? You have nothing to talk about when you are with other people? A night class could add some new friends and conversational material to your repertoire!

When working on your personal development, it is a good idea to recognize the steps you are taking right now to improve your life in the future. Acknowledge and give yourself credit for the work you are doing to better your life. It is important to not dwell on the negative things, but to focus on the positive.

Positive affirmations can be a powerful tool for your personal development, but not if you speak them by rote, without engagement or interest. Always get emotionally involved when you repeat your affirmations to yourself. When you are repeating your affirmations, invest your full attention in them and concentrate on building up positive feelings.

Practice discipline in all its aspects. Whether on a mental, psychical or spiritual level, discipline is an important thing to have and to practice. If you suspect that you might be overindulging in something, take a step back and really look at yourself. After you have accessed the problem, you can then correct your behavior.

Be your best. Regardless of what you do, do it right the first time and every time. Whether you are taking out the trash or closing a multi-million dollar real estate deal, your best effort is required. When you give only your best to every endeavor you are showing yourself what you can accomplish.

Changing your sleep schedule can improve your life in great ways. Often times we are getting too much sleep and a lot of the day is wasted. If we are able to go to sleep earlier we can usually wake up earlier. When we wake up earlier that allows us to have more time to do the things we love to do.

A great way to aid your own personal development is to learn from the mistakes and pitfalls of others. Read about and talk to people who went through similar problems you are facing, and see what kinds of mistakes they made. Make sure not to make these mistakes yourself.

So many wonderful things to learn and do! Human possibilities are almost infinite. We hope these tips will give you new ideas and a new impetus to the unfolding of your talents. Time is the only limit, once you have set a course toward realizing your full capacities.

craftsman style room divider columns added to DIY living room ...

September 26th, 2012

I recently updated that we were working on our ?room divider? in the living room. I needed Mr. Project to finish it really fast because I was hosting a bunco party. So he kicked it into high gear and start to finish he had the room divider and all the wall trim up and painted in less than two weeks.

Now I?m going to show you this before picture, but I do have to warn you that this is like SUPER before. This was what it looked like when we bought it:

Everything about this before is terrible, and let me tell you that if you had smell-o-vision that picture would stink to high heaven because of the 30 year old carpet and probably the 30 year old paint job. Let me point out some very special things about the before just in case you miss the subtleties. 1. Popcorn ceilings, 2. hideous 30-year old orange peal textured walls (like really bad bad texture, not new slightly bad texture). 3. old stinky carpet, 4. 1-inch stained pine baseboards & pine doors, 5. creamy old switches and plugs, 6. wall blocking the kitchen, 7. rickety metal railing (we tried to salvage the wood beam, but the stink had permeated it so we had to toss it).? Basically the whole space was repugnant and have I mentioned that everyone tried to talk us out of buying this house?

Well that was more than a year ago. Before we moved in, most of the work was done in this space ? though I don?t have a good progress picture. So Imagine the space with the pretty stairs, hardwood floors, smooth white ceilings and walls painted gray. It was a nice space, but really boring and other than the stairs lacked architectural detail.? And for me, the biggest issue was that there was no clear division of space. I?m all for open concept, but I want spaces to feel like they have a beginning and end. Here?s my first progress photo to show about where we were at when we got started + the cabinets, beam, and columns:

So for the first part of this project, we decided the specs on the cabinets ? we didn?t want them to feel too big and bulky, but yet they still needed to have some weight to them. We went with 12? deep on the inside of the cabinets (standard size for an upper cabinet), 34? tall (standard height for a base cabinet), and then 22? wide (just a good size for the space).

Mr. Project built the cabinets ? the face frames and doors are maple, the boxes and shelves are pre-finished melamine? board.? The outsides of the boxes are trimmed with 1/4? MDF to create the paneling on the sides and backs. The cabinets are topped with a solid chunk of Black Walnut that we got from a friend who had cut down and milled some walnut trees on his land several years ago (whenever using solid wood, make sure that is is properly dried to avoid warping and splitting). It?s really gorgeous and Mr. Project was thrilled to get some solid pieces big enough to use without having to glue anything. Initially I had planned for the whole thing to be white, but I?m so glad that Mr. Project suggested walnut ? it?s expensive, but in the end it brings some much-needed contrast to the very white space.

Once the cabinets were done, he installed them to the walls and bolted them to the floors. Nothing?s moving these suckers. Next he installed a 2?4 to the ceiling (screwing it into the beams above) and then built the beam out of 3/4? MDF like a big U and screwed nailed and glued it onto the 2?4. The columns are built out of 3/4? cabinet-grade plywood cut and mitered and affixed to one small square screwed into the beam and one small square screwed into the cabinet top.

Once all the main pieces were assembled and installed, trim work could begin:

Mr. Project continued the crown molding along the beam, and then trimmed out the columns and put baseboard on the cabinets. Then he started on the board and batten that we did all around the front room, one wall in the dining room, and then up the stairs.

Once all the trim was done the real work began? putting, caulking, sanding, priming, sanding, and painting. Mr. Project and nearly the entire house was covered in a fine white dust for a good 4 days. It was pretty awful. And all I wanted to do was keep cleaning and vacuuming because I couldn?t handle the dust. but in the end it was worth all of the hard work!

Here is the room divider all finished (missing the doors). It?s so so so so gorgeous, and just the perfect thing for the space. You would never know that it wasn?t always there either. It really is just a great focal point for the room. Especially since this is what you see first when you walk in the house.

And here from further back, you can see the expansiveness of the board and batten.

And head on with furniture in place, a peak of the stairs to your left.

And now the full stair shot ? I loved my stairs before, but now I super duper love them with the trim.

And then a few days later Mr. Project installed the inset doors and shiny latches. This matches our kitchen cabinets & hardware to tie the spaces together.

And the over-all shot. Bestill my heart! Such a beautiful space, and completely unbelievable that it?s the same space that we started with over a year ago!

2 Marines charged with urinating on corpses

NBC's Jim Miklaszewski on the ramifications of the video that allegedly shows Marines urinating on corpses.

By NBC News staff and wire services

Two Marines are facing criminal charges for allegedly urinating on the corpses of Taliban fighters last year in Afghanistan and posing for unofficial photos with casualties, Marine officials announced on Monday.

The criminal charges are the first levied on anyone over the incident, which was recorded on video and circulated on YouTube.

The video, which showed Marines in full combat gear urinating on the bodies of three dead men, triggered widespread anger in Afghanistan early this year, with Afghan President Hamid Karzai calling the Marines' actions "inhuman."?Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said he feared that the video could set back efforts to begin reconciliation talks with the Taliban.

The charged Marines, Staff Sergeants Joseph W. Chamblin and Edward W. Deptola, who were referred to trial by court martial, also face charges for failing to properly supervise junior Marines and failing to stop and report misconduct of junior Marines.?

The Marine Corps investigation showed that although the video was only circulated on the Internet in January, the incident actually took place on or around July 27, 2011, during a counter-insurgency operation in Afghanistan's Helmand province.?

The Marine Corps said on August 27 that three Marines pleaded guilty to charges over the video. But their punishment fell short of criminal prosecution.

Chamblin and Deptola, on the other hand, also face a series charges for failing to supervise junior Marines.

This includes simple things like failing to require them to wear protective equipment to more serious breaches, like failing to report the "negligent discharge" of a grenade launcher. Deptola is also charged with failing to stop the unnecessary damaging of Afghan compounds, the Marines said.

The Marines said there were other pending cases in the video investigation. They declined to elaborate on the incident in which the negligent actions took place.

After a lengthy investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Services,?Lt. Gen. Richard Mills, commanding general of Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico, Va., made the decision to refer the cases to court martial, the Marine Corps Times reported.

Both Marines are from the Third Battalion, Second Marine Regiment at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. ?No date has been set for their court martial.

New tool for CSI? Geographic software maps distinctive features inside bones

ScienceDaily (Sep. 25, 2012) ? A common type of geographic mapping software offers a new way to study human remains.

In a recent issue of the American Journal of Physical Anthropology, researchers describe how they used commercially available mapping software to identify features inside a human foot bone -- a new way to study human skeletal variation.

David Rose, a Captain in the Ohio State University Police Division and doctoral student in anthropology, began the project to determine whether the patterns of change inside the bones of human remains could reveal how the bones were used during life.

"Our bones adapt to the load that's placed on them. Patterns of tension and compression show up in our internal bone structure, and this software lets us look at those patterns in a new way," Rose said.

Julie Field, study co-author and assistant professor of anthropology at Ohio State, explained that archaeologists frequently use geographic information system (GIS) software to map the location of objects uncovered at an excavation site.

"We try to identify important clusters of objects such as household tools or agricultural tools that would indicate patterns of human activity," Field explained. "Based on certain scientific criteria that you give it, the software gives you a statistical measure of whether the objects you're looking at actually constitute a cluster."

In this case, the researchers used a program called ArcGIS. But similar types of mapping software can analyze any kind of spatial data, such as crime statistics or flood models, Rose added. He usesthe same program to map line-of-site views to develop security plans for events on campus.

This is the first time anyone has used GIS software to map bone microstructure.

Co-author Sam Stout, professor of anthropology at Ohio State and Rose's advisor, explained why the study of internal bone structure is important.

"Dave's work allows us to visualize, analyze, and compare the distribution of microscopic features that reflect the development and maintenance of bones, which we can relate to skeletal health and disease -- for example, bone fragility in osteoporosis," Stout said.

Advances that relate to the study of foot bones in particular would be useful in forensics, Rose explained, because of one grisly fact: when unidentified human remains are discovered today, the foot bones are sometimes intact, having been protected by the deceased person's shoes. Any information about the person, such as age, sex, or body size could ultimately aid law enforcement in identifying a body.

For this study, the researchers studied the cross-section of a metatarsal -- a long bone in the foot -- from a deceased woman who generously gave her body to the Division of Anatomy's Body Donation Program. Using this bone cross-section, they demonstrated how the software could be used to show the loads experienced in the foot during gait.

Rose recorded an extremely high-resolution image of the bone cross-section under a microscope, and used the software to map the location of key structures called osteons.

Osteons are microscopic structures created throughout life to fix small cracks or to maintain mineral levels in our blood. The size and shape of osteons, along with the direction of the collagen fibers from which they are made inside bone, are influenced by the loads we place on our bones during life.

In this case, the donor's metatarsal bone showed the predicted pattern of normal bone remodeling, with concentrations of particular types of osteons along the top and bottom of the bone which could have been formed by forces experienced as she walked -- just where researchers would expect to see telltale signs of foot flexure and compression.

This study provides a proof of concept, Rose cautioned, and many more bones would have to be studied before GIS software could provide meaningful insight into bone biology.

"Really, we're just combining very basic principles in GIS and skeletal biology," he said. "But I believe that there is a tremendous opportunity for advancements at the intersection of both disciplines. The real advantage to this method is that it offers a new scale for the study of human variation offering to shed light on how we adapt to our surroundings."

Co-author Amanda Agnew, assistant professor of anatomy, agreed and added that the work "combines bone biology, biomechanics, and biomedical informatics to explore new methods to evaluate old questions."

Timothy Gocha of the Department of Anthropology also contributed to this research.

Pakistani bounty placed on anti-Islam filmmaker

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) - A Pakistani minister offered $100,000 on Saturday to anyone who kills the maker of an online video which insults Islam, as sporadic protests rumbled on across parts of the Muslim world.

"I announce today that this blasphemer, this sinner who has spoken nonsense about the holy Prophet, anyone who murders him, I will reward him with $100,000," Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour told a news conference, to applause.

"I invite the Taliban brothers and the al Qaeda brothers to join me in this blessed mission."

A spokesman for Pakistan's prime minister said the government disassociated itself from the minister's statement.

While many Muslim countries saw mostly peaceful protests on Friday, fifteen people were killed in Pakistan during demonstrations over the video.

People involved in the film, an amateurish 13-minute clip of which was posted on YouTube, have said it was made by a 55-year-old California man, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula.

Nakoula has not returned to his home in the Los Angeles suburb of Cerritos since leaving voluntarily to be interviewed by federal authorities. His family has since gone into hiding.

In the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Saturday, thousands of Islamist activists clashed with police who used batons and teargas to clear an unauthorized protest. In Kano, northern Nigeria's biggest city, Shi'ite Muslims burned American flags, but their protest passed off peacefully.

The demonstrations were less widespread than on Friday, but showed anger still simmered around the world against the film and other insults against Islam in the West, including cartoons published by a French satirical magazine.

Showing continued nervousness among Western governments, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle called on Muslim countries to protect foreign embassies.

"The governments in host countries have the unconditional obligation to protect foreign missions. If that doesn't happen, we will emphatically criticize that and if it still doesn't happen it won't go without consequences," he told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper on Sunday

Germany's embassy in Sudan was stormed on September 14 as was the U.S. mission in the capital Khartoum where there were deadly clashes between police and protesters against the film.

MILITIA OUSTED IN BENGHAZI

In the Libyan city of Benghazi, a crowd forced out an Islamist militia some U.S. officials blame for a deadly attack on the U.S. consulate during one of the first protests, on September 11.

Ansar al-Sharia, which denies it was involved in the attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, quit the city after its base was stormed by Libyans angry at armed groups that control parts of the country.

That might go some way to vindicate U.S. President Barack Obama's faith in Libya's nascent democracy where Ambassador Christopher Stevens had worked to help rebels oust Muammar Gaddafi only to be killed in a surge of anti-Americanism.

"It's the view of this administration that it's a pretty clear sign from the Libyan people that they're not going to trade the tyranny of a dictator for the tyranny of the mob," said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

"It's also an indication that the Libyan people are not comfortable with the voices of a few extremists and those who advocate and perpetrate violence, to drown out the voices and aspirations of the Libyan people." [ID:nL5E8KM49W]

In Egypt, the leader of Egypt's main ultra orthodox Islamist party, that shares power with the more moderate Muslim Brotherhood, said the film and the French cartoons were part of a rise of anti-Islamic actions since the Arab spring revolts.

"A new reality in the Middle East has emerged after the toppling of autocratic regime of Hosni Mubarak and others through democratic elections that brought newly-elected Islamist governments," Emad Abdel Ghaffour, leader of the Salafist Nour Party, told Reuters.

"There are interest groups who seek to escalate hatred to show newly-elected governments and their Muslim electorate as undemocratic," he said.

Nour, whose party is the second largest in parliament and plays a formidable force in Egypt's new politics, said President Mohamed Mursi should demand "legislation or a resolution to criminalize "contempt of Islam as a religion and its Prophet" at the U.N. General Assembly next week.

Ecommerce Web Hosting - Factors To Seem Out For Previous To ...

Posted by harelsonklann295 on Sep 22, 2012 in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Deciding on the correct domain identify can perhaps make or split an online internet marketing business enterprise. In any case, not simply certainly is the domain identify the very first clue that any human customer, and every customer towards your internet site is truly a probable cash-paying shopper, nevertheless it can be the 1st pinpointing attribute that the majority lookup engines should decide your internet site by.

Certain, there is certainly folks who make cash on the web by having a domain title this sort of as x7y.com or regardless of what, but individuals are inclined to become the exceptions alternatively compared to rule. Individuals who DO achieve this way both possess a persuasive product or service, an amazing promoting marketing campaign, or a few other issue which influences their prosperity regardless of the odd URL which fails to explain to a customer something regarding their web-site.

The truth is, that individuals over the internet usually are exploring for advice. Should they are seeking bicycle pieces, they?re far more more likely to be interested in a site title which incorporates the phrase ?bicycle parts?, or a minimum of ?bicycle? than an individual that just possesses a string of letters or that?s vaguely determined as ?bobs? site. Obviously, a person area where by this may be refuted is with the instance where exactly the individual or corporation has obtained identify recognition, i.e. branding, in order that persons determine what they are really on the lookout at. One example is, the majority of folks observing ibm.com might have a wise idea this blog will almost certainly provide them with details about IBM, copiers, pcs, and correlated topics.

But nevertheless, many of us usually are not that blessed, or well-known, that we are able to just believe that everybody, human or online search engine, will determine what our identify means and routinely check out our homepage.

It?s always because of this that the majority World wide web promotional classes trying to make clear why making a choice on a superb domain identify is essential, will propose that you simply try to choose a site title which indirectly displays both the essential internet marketing business you could be in, or expressly as is practical defines the merchandise you are attempting to offer.

This is when the online market place marketer must make some conclusions.

As an illustration, let us say a corporation named ?Dawn?s Fitness? has some magnificent work out and excess weight decline products and services. On the other hand, Dawn?s identify seriously isn?t heading to arouse a great deal of desire, so, throwing pleasure to your aspect, Dawn decides to include the phrases ?fitness? or maybe ?weight loss? into her domain identify. As she starts her look, she realizes that each one the most efficient versions on ?fitness? and ?weight loss? happen to have been pre-owned up relating to the dot com?s and dot net?s.

So as in order to make her domain title jump out, Dawn now needs to discover a way to include these terms into her URL. She can attempt some versions this sort of as ?fitness101?, ?fitnessbydawn?, ?fitnessweightlosshome?, ?fitness-weight-loss-home?, or various other variation or combo. She would probably comprehend that she presents some type of ?crunch-master? device which people young and old in search of health and fitness facts in many instances utilize the phrase ?crunch? (for non-exercisers, a crunch is really an physical activity for stomach muscle tissues) and set that into her domain identify.

That could or will not show results, but Dawn isn?t going to know right up until she attempts it?and incorporates as a great deal of internet search engine optimization actions as is practical, or pays for many higher course marketing, or perhaps will get fortunate.

Simply because the dot com?s and dot net?s are taken, Dawn is perhaps capable of see one additional extension, this sort of as .us, .ws, or .television set, simply to identify a couple of One among them might however provide the domain title she desires around as all people has long been concentrating over the com?s and net?s. This usage of an a lot less well-known extension could penalize Dawn a bit, but these extensions have gotten a lot better identified day to day, as well as means to select the appropriate domain identify can potentially be a bit more fundamental compared to the theoretical downside of getting a not-well-known extension within the finish.

As identified previously, a human on the lookout for facts will almost certainly try to find a phrase while in the domain title that has one thing to undertake together with his or her lookup. The internet search engine robot (spider) will often do precisely the same. The two the human and then the robot will ordinarily assess the term or phrases inside of the domain title because of the info a part of the web site articles to assign a price, for your online search engine, a rating, on the net website page.

So, our first interrogation was ?Why is selecting a top notch domain identify pretty important?? The solution is; since it is probably the earliest and will be among the most critical internet search engine optimization systems you might decide on.

Remember to talk about Low-budget Internet Hosting ? Very Best Of All, One Of The Most Low-priced Web Hosting, because the short article gives you more info within the matter. (56)

garage doors add or deduct from your house value

briejg60ro Posted by briejg60ro on 11 hours ago

Your garage door?s look, whether good or bad, can make an enormous distinction to the looks of your home. To enhance your property?s value, spend a few bucks to spiff up your garage door.

Most individuals don?t consider their garage door very often except to open it or shut it. But there?s money to be made in your garage door?s appearance.

One relatively easy approach to enhance the value of your property is to put in a brand new garage door. Yes, you might remodel your kitchen or a bathroom and that would not harm anything. However perhaps the most important return on your money to your home improvement dollar is in front of where you park your automobile, store plenty of your things or both. Your garage door.

A brand new garage door with ornamental options may be just the ticket to increasing your home?s value.

Listed here are a number of the thoughts.

Garage doors with raised panels have a very classic appearance. The best part is that they can be painted in different ways to enhance the panels. This makes the garage door stand out far beyond what a solid color door may do.

Overhead garage doors featuring a carriage house pattern can make a huge difference to your home?s curb appeal. They are designed to resemble the look of carriage house or barn doors. Carriage style doors often look like they are on hinges and open outward, but they?re in fact convenient overhead garage doors that are completely out of the way once they are open.

Windows on garage doors can also make a big difference to the door?s appearance. Palladium design windows, if they match the decor of your house can really make a great impression. What ever type of window you have in your garage door, the thought is to fit the sort of window in the remainder of your house.

Garage doors can be made from semi-opaque acrylic. They let daylight to penetrate the garage door but no details of the things in the interior of the garage can be observed. Even though this style is extremely unusual and awfully costly, on the correct residence they can impart an staggering look. This is specially true on a modern style residence and if the garage door panels are backlit.

If your budget is tight, but you desire to create a dramatic enhancement to the appearance of your home, you can paint your garage door in just a couple of hours. The transformation will be beautiful, particularly if you use multiple colors.

An updated garage door provides 1% to 4% toward the worth of your residence. That?s a lot for simply painting your door, specially if you are able to get to the 4% side of the range.

Now that you are aware of how financially significant your garage door really is to you, it is time to get to work. You can chose to employ a contractor to enhance your garage door?s value. You can make a decision to acquire a wholly new door. Or else you can purchase some paint and start working. The choice is yours and the benefit is completely yours as well.

A's top Tigers, avoid sweep

Associated Press Sports

updated 10:04 p.m. ET Sept. 20, 2012

DETROIT (AP) - The Oakland Athletics avoided a three-game sweep, yet still came out on the losing end.

Seth Smith homered, doubled and drove in four runs, and the Athletics beat the Detroit Tigers 12-4 in a matchup of AL playoff contenders. But the wild-card co-leaders also learned they would be minus starter Brett Anderson for the remainder of the regular season.

An MRI revealed Anderson sustained a Grade 2 strain of his right oblique muscle on Wednesday night, when the left-hander awkwardly fell off the mound and exited after two-plus innings.

Anderson was 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA after six games while coming off Tommy John surgery. The A's revealed the extent of his latest injury after their victory.

"He's a guy that's got ace-type of stuff. It hurts to lose a starting pitcher," Athletics manager Bob Melvin said. "But we've lost a lot of starters in the last month and a half, three."

Melvin said he doesn't know about Anderson's availability for the postseason.

The team also is without Brandon McCarthy, who was hit in the head by a line drive, and Bartolo Colon, who was suspended for using a performance-enhancing drug.

Both clubs are in second place in their divisions, and Oakland is even with Baltimore for the wild-card spot.

The Tigers are two games behind the Central-leading Chicago White Sox.

Outscored 18-4 in the first two games, Oakland held down Miguel Cabrera to win the finale. Cabrera singled in four at-bats, and tops the AL in batting at .333.

Josh Donaldson hit a go-ahead single in a four-run sixth inning that made it 6-3, then had an RBI double to cap a six-run ninth that included Smith's three-run double.

"We're not the type of team to score a run here, a run there, two runs here. We're more of a big-inning team, more often than not," Smith said.

Pat Neshek (2-1) retired the only batter he faced and got the win.

Anibal Sanchez (3-6), who held Cleveland hitless for 6 2-3 innings in his last start, gave up six runs on six hits and two walks in 5 2-3 innings.

Smith hit his 14th homer, a solo shot in the fifth that made it 2-all. The Tigers retook the lead in the bottom half when Cabrera singled and scored on Prince Fielder's double.

The A's went ahead for good in the sixth. Brandon Moss hit a tying double with one out and after Chris Carter struck out and Smith was walked intentionally, Donaldson singled.

Phil Coke relieved and George Kottaras hit a liner that center fielder Austin Jackson misjudged, the ball sailing over his head for a two-run triple.

"It kind of knuckled. I was right there. It just took a left turn on me," Jackson said.

Kottaras felt fortunate.

"I knew I hit it good. I saw him coming in. I thought, `Oh no, he's going to catch it,"' Kottaras said. "Then when I saw it go over his glove. I was like `Great!' But then I thought, `I've got to keep running."'

Andy Dirks led off the Detroit sixth with a home run off Jerry Blevins.

Yoenis Cespedes hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to start Oakland's scoring in the ninth.

The Tigers threatened in the first against Tommy Milone, loading the bases before Delmon Young grounded into an inning-ending double play.

"We missed a couple opportunities," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "Delmon hit a ball right on the button in the first inning, double-play ball, he hit it right on the nose. We had a couple other opportunities. We had some chances."

Detroit broke through in the second to take a 2-0 lead on Gerald Laird's RBI single and Jackson's sacrifice fly.

Second baseman Omar Infante's throwing error on an attempted double play gave the A's a run in the third. It was his 10th error in 51 games since being acquired from Miami, along with Sanchez, on July 24.

NOTE: Detroit C Alex Avila is no longer having headaches, according to Leyland. Avila sprained his jaw when he collided with Fielder chasing a foul ball on Sunday. ... Cespedes was the designated hitter because of a bone bruise on the bottom of the outfielder's foot that has lingered for the last few days. ... Oakland OF Coco Crisp missed his second game because of an eye allergy. ... The Athletics travel to New York for a three-game weekend series. Jarrod Parker faces CC Sabathia on Friday night. ... Rick Porcello and the Tigers host Sam Dedundo and Minnesota on Friday night.

Portland Real Estate Judicial Non - Foreclosure Attorney

MG 5228.JPG by sean dreilingerTrust deeds are the same as mortgages in most ways: both are recorded as liens on property, both require the borrower to take care of the property and protect the priority of the lender?s lien.? The major difference between them is that with a trust deed there is a third party, a ?trustee,? who has the power to sell a property at a public sale if the owner defaults on their loan, but with a mortgage the foreclosure is handled by a court.? And there are other differences between mortgages and trust deeds when it comes to foreclosure.? The most important difference is that the lender doesn?t have the right to pursue the borrower for a deficiency (the difference between what the lender is owed and what the lender receives at the foreclosure sale) after a nonjudicial foreclosure.? If you think about it, that makes a lot of sense: the nonjudicial foreclosure process isn?t monitored by a judge, so there is nobody around to make sure that the trustee and lender properly publicize the sale and get a good number of bidders show up.? It would not be fair to require the borrower to pay a deficiency if nobody actually had the opportunity to bid at the foreclosure sale.? That is the price that lenders paid when they were given the right to foreclose nonjudicially.? There are other important differences between judicial and nonjudicial foreclosure. Talk to a real estate attorney if you have questions about the other differences.

State Foreclosure Laws Create Temporary Artificial Rebounds

Thursday, August 30 Foreclosure activity patterns are varying significantly from state to state, often hinging on the level of dysfunction that exists in each state?s foreclosure process, reported RealtyTrac yesterday.? Recent legislation and court rulings could lengthen the foreclosure process in some of the states with the shorter timelines, however, resulting in a temporary foreclosure lull and subsequent rebound in those states as well, said Daren Blomquist, Vice President of RealtyTrac. High-level findings from the report:

The manipulators of our economy and investment markets, the insiders of the Cabal, which continues to hold sway in the halls of power, are bent on defrauding you of every single penny you have in one way or another, be it junk fees on mortgages, fabricated derivatives, or company stock backed by fabricated accounting and fraud. QE3 ? Pay Attention If You Are in the Real Estate Market

On one hand, you could let them all default. The problem is the criminal liabilities would drive the global and national leadership into factionalism that could turn violent, not to mention what such defaults would do to liquidity in the financial system. Then there is the fact that a great deal of the fraudulent paper has been purchased by pension funds. So the mark down would hit the retirement savings of the people who have now also lost their homes or equity in their homes. The politics of this in an election year are terrifying for the Administration to contemplate.

Real Estate Law along with an Attorney to Guide You

One key aspect of making an estate plan is made to lessen the burden on those that will have to carry out your estate in probate as an executor or personal representative. This burden is greater when one owns property in multiple states. If one is a resident in one state and has property any other state that ranges from a house, ranch, or to land as small as just a timeshare, there may be a more difficult and expensive situation for your loved ones down the road. The property that is in your state of residence will be probated through the probate court in your state of residence. Probate courts exist to change title from the deceased name to the name of potential heirs. The probate court in your state of residence does not have the authority to probate property in other states. This means that a probate proceeding must be initiated in each state that one owns property in even if it is just a timeshare in Florida that you spend one week in a year. This also means your estate must pay additional fees for probate and most likely attorneys in each additional state. Source: targetlaw.com

New Jersey housing defaults hit new highs as economy weakens

The Victorian home, built in 1887 and owned by the retired couple for 38 years, is part of the growing backlog of properties facing repossession in the state, which now has the second-highest serious delinquency rate in the U.S. While shrinking nationwide, the pipeline of distressed real estate, or shadow inventory, is also growing in New York, Connecticut, Maine and Pennsylvania because of state laws that slow the foreclosure process. The Bradys heard nothing from their lender from May 2011, until a letter arrived in the mail last week.

arthurturner10: California Foreclosure Laws

Because all my hard money lending is done in California and to people who buy, rehab, and sell foreclosures, this news story caught my eye. The California legislature recently passed a law making it harder to banks to foreclose on property owners. According to Reuters, the bill prohibits banks from ?dual-tracking? loans ? proceeding with the foreclosure process while also in loan modification negotiations with the owners. The bill also lawsuits against robo-signing. The bill still has to be signed by the governor before it becomes law, but he is expected to sign it. On the surface, this law sounds good to me. I will freely admit the first I heard about it was from the above linked article and the facts in that article are the extent of my knowledge of it. I do think robo-signing is a big problem. When your actiosn can result in people losing their home and being forced out onto the streets, you need to have someone carefully look over the documents before foreclosing. This just stands to reason. As to the prohibition against dual-tracking, I?m OK with that as well. Yes, it may result in longer times to foreclose on a property. But if a borrower is in talks with a bank to modify their loan, I think they would reasonably conclude that the bank would pause foreclosure proceedings while they are attempting to work out a settlement. Further, without this restriction, the bank has a huge advantage at negotiating ? they would be able to drag out the talks until foreclosure was a day away, leaving the borrower with no choice but to either accept the terms the bank offered or lose his or her house. How will this affect my lending? I expect to see a slowdown in houses for sale at auction for the 6 or so months after this bill becomes law. This will represent the time banks have to wait while they attempt to reach a loan modification deal before proceeding. There is nothing in this law, to my knowledge, that requires the banks change what loan modification terms they must accept, so they will still be reaching the same decision on modifying loans or not, resulting in about the same number of houses going to foreclosure. There will just be a delay lasting the length of those negotiations. Source: blogspot.com

How To Find The Home You?ve Always Wanted

Research rental properties. If you are considering purchasing a rental property, you should not consider buying the property until you have completely reviewed the records for at least the past two years. You need this information because you must make sure the seller is providing you with the most accurate information on what you can expect the rental property to generate money wise. Your lender will also want some sort of income verification prior to issuing you a loan.

A total of 620,751 were said to be in lenders? possession, but only about 15 percent of those are listed for sale, RealtyTrac reported. The foreclosure properties are even sparking bidding wars in some areas of the country.

Nanoparticles detect biochemistry of inflammation

ScienceDaily (Sep. 18, 2012) ? Inflammation is the hallmark of many human diseases, from infection to neurodegeneration. The chemical balance within a tissue is disturbed, resulting in the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide, which can cause oxidative stress and associated toxic effects.

Although some ROS are important in cell signaling and the body's defense mechanisms, these chemicals also contribute to and are indicators of many diseases, including cardiovascular dysfunction. A non-invasive way of detecting measurable, low levels of hydrogen peroxide and other ROS would provide a viable way to detect inflammation. Such a method would also provide a way to selectively deliver drugs to their targets.

Adah Almutairi, PhD, associate professor at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Department of NanoEngineering, and the Materials Science and Engineering Program at the University of California, San Diego, and colleagues have developed the first degradable polymer that is extremely sensitive to low but biologically relevant concentrations of hydrogen peroxide.

Their work is currently published in the online issue of the Journal of the American Chemical Society.

These polymeric capsules, or nanoparticles, are taken up by macrophages and neutrophils -- immune system cells that rush to the site of inflammation. The nanoparticles then release their contents when they degrade in the presence of hydrogen peroxide produced by these cells.

"This is the first example of a biocompatible way to respond to oxidative stress and inflammation," said Almutairi, director of the UC San Diego Laboratory of Bioresponsive Materials. "Because the capsules are tailored to biodegrade and release their cargo when encountering hydrogen peroxide, they may allow for targeted drug delivery to diseased tissue."

Almutairi is looking to test this method in a model of atherosclerosis. "Cardiologists have long needed a non-invasive method to determine which patients are vulnerable to a heart attack caused by ruptured plaque in the arteries before the attack," she said. "Since the most dangerous of plaques is inflamed, our system could provide a safe way to detect and treat this disease."

Additional contributors to the study include Caroline de Gracia Lux, Shivanjali Joshi-Barr, Trung Nguyen, Enas Mahmoud, Eric Schopf and Nadezda Fomina.

This research was supported by the NIH Director's New Innovator Award 1DP2OD006499-01 and a King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology center grant to the Center of Excellence in Nanomedicine at UC San Diego.

LAWPRO's map of frauds targetting lawyers continues to grow ? Slaw

Back in April practicePRO released a map that showed where emails to our fraud reporting database (fraudinfo@lawpro.ca) were originating from. The aim was to show how widespread the problem of email scams was. Despite being an Ontario-based insurer, almost half of our emails had come from elsewhere in Canada, the US and overseas.

We recently updated the map, and it shows that the pace of email fraud attempts hasn't slowed. In five months we've had nearly 1,000 more emails, posted 57 new warnings on AvoidaClaim.com and heard from lawyers in 29 additional countries.

Strangely, South Dakota continues to be the only region of North America from which we haven't had any scam-related emails. Is it an oasis from fraud?
